THEME
Catistenias is the series of artworks belonging to my late technical learning phase. Where I was getting closer to what I truly wanted to explore with my art as far as theme.
I used the topic of greek mythology catasterisms based on the books of "The Catasterismi “ by Eratosthenes and “The greek myths” by Robert Graves among others to dwelve into the psychology and life experience of such characters.
I realised that I was interested in what each character could feel while living the events far more than the story itself or what it could say about ancient greek theology.
I was also approaching such matter with imagination and respect to the history. For a XXI century artist I cannot even fadom the depth and true meaning of the stories told by them. I could only use my empathy to try wear the character´s shoes and try portray it to the best of my habilities.
MY JOURNEY
On a personal level, this series served to learn about myself and how I want to make my art. I believe the way you work has a great impact on your inner world.
The style I was taught while being one that I loved to see, was not one that came naturally to me nor one that could express what I wanted to. That lead to a lot of frustration and eventually having to give up on such style.
STYLE
The style is a refinement of the mixed media technique of Divesity Explorations in 2024. A style I have been taught into called “abstract realism” mixed media.
What catched my attention the most about such style was the expressiveness in the brushtrokes, which was what I enjoyed the most. Working with different tools, brushtrokes and layers
However, this style requires a level of realism that had it´s own limitations.
Figurative art represents reality, simbolism gives clues about the context and abstraction, in this series was only enphatising the meaning.
I was not able to portray what I truly wanted to do and I was growing frustrated.
